Alzheimer’s Society Norwich Memory Walk 2016

Alzheimer’s Society Norwich Memory Walk 2016

Around 225,000 people develop dementia every year – that's the equivalent to one person every three minutes. Sadly, many of us have a family member or loved one who has dementia and often feel powerless to help them.

This is the slogan message for the Memory Walk 2016, in aid of the Alzheimer's Society. A charity focused on the causes of dementia and supporting families affected by dementia. The charity launched its media campaign in support of Dementia friends to raise awareness of the illness and has now trained over 1,500,000 to be dementia friends.

One of our paralegals, Natalie Smith, knows the effects of dementia and the stigma which can be attached to it, as she has helped care for her grandmother who suffers with Vascular Dementia for almost 18 months now. So when the opportunity came up to participate in the Norwich Memory Walk she immediately signed up; 'I couldn't resist getting involved with such a fantastic event. The thought that we can physically walk steps closer to a collective dream (a world without dementia) is such an incredible thing to be a part of and to share that with so many other people whose lives have been effected by dementia is just amazing.'

Natalie is now in the process of getting a team of Clapham & Collinge participants to support her in her efforts to walk a step closer to a world without dementia. Trainee Solicitor, Laura Fearnley and Marketing Executive, Andrea Smith have joined the worthy cause. Andrea said 'having also experienced caring for a loved one with dementia I was keen to be involved in this event, to have the support of staff and friends at Clapham & Collinge behind our fundraising is great.'

The walk takes place at Eaton Park on Saturday 10th September at 11am with participants being able to walk either 2km or 6km. To sign up is free, with an option to make a donation towards your event t-shirt.

Any donations would be greatly welcomed in support of this event. The official Clapham & Collinge fundraising page can be found by following this link: https://www.justgiving.com/teams/MW16ClaphamCollingeSolicitors
