Being a charity trustee can be an onerous position and not one which should be entered into lightly. Whether the charity is small or large the role of a trustee is a complicated and potentially risky one.

Taking responsibility for the running of a charity can be a challenging task and many potential trustees are deterred from volunteering because of the perceived risks and level of involvement required.

These trustee training sessions will provide an essential toolkit to the law and procedure surrounding being a trustee and running a charity. Suitable for anyone considering being a trustee as well as new and experienced trustees, the training will be informal and interactive with the opportunity to ''compare notes'' and share experiences with other trustees and attendees.

Key points to be covered will include:

  • What it means to be a trustee and the benefits
  • GDPR
  • Trading activities and appropriate structures
  • Registering your charity
  • Conversion to Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO)
  • Succession planning , record keeping
  • Funds, reserves and resilience
  • Making tax digital
  • Financial responsibility of trustees
