Clapham & Collinge Solicitors announce second Charity Lasting Powers of Attorney Scheme

Clapham & Collinge Solicitors are delighted to announce their second 'Charity Lasting Powers of Attorney Scheme' taking place throughout November 2018.

As planning for later life professionals, we are keen to raise awareness about the legal and financial implications of dementia and highlight the importance of getting your legal documents in place for peace of mind. Throughout November Clapham & Collinge Solicitors are offering a 25% discount on Lasting Powers of Attorneys.

What is a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA)?

A Lasting Power of Attorney is a legal document which gives someone the authority to act on your behalf when it comes to important decisions, if you become unable to make them yourself. There are two types of Lasting Powers of Attorney:

  • Property and Financial Affairs

This document gives your attorney the authority to deal with your property, bank accounts, investments, utility companies and any other finances. This document can be used as soon as it has been registered and regardless of whether you have lost capacity. Your attorney can make decisions on your behalf, provided the decision is in your best interests, for example deciding to sell your property to pay for care fees or change where an investment is held to ensure a higher return.

  • Health and Welfare

This document gives your attorney the authority to make decisions regarding your day-to-day medical and care needs, your care/residential home and life sustaining treatment. This document can only be used once you have lost capacity so if you have not made an LPA by this point, these decisions will be left to the medical professional involved in your care. This is often a point of contention as your family/friends may have differing opinions to the professionals when it comes to these decisions.

In addition to a 25% discount on Lasting Powers of Attorneys, Clapham & Collinge Solicitors will also make a £40 donation per Lasting Power of Attorney appointment to support 4 Norfolk based charities. Our chosen charities are:

Lin Whitehead, Head of the Private Client team said "I am delighted that we are giving our clients the opportunity to support local charities with our LPA scheme again this year. The money raised during our 2017 campaign supported 4 Norfolk charities, many of whom rely on donations and corporate support, helping them to continue delivering their services to our county.

A study by the SFE found that 36% of people admit to having made no provisions for later life. With campaigns such as our Charity Lasting Powers of Attorney Scheme we hope that it will encourage people to have these important conversations with loved ones and get their legal documents in place."

The cost of preparing and registering a Lasting Power of Attorney will depend on whether you wish to have a Property & Financial Affairs Lasting Power of Attorney and/or a Health & Welfare Lasting Power of Attorney prepared and registered.

To claim your discount and book your November appointment, please contact our Client Relations Team on 01603 693500. Appointments available at our Norwich, North Walsham, and Sheringham offices.

If you instruct us through this scheme and you would also like to make a Will, we will offer Wills at our usual fee but will make an additional £40 donation to the chosen charities.

All appointments regarding your Lasting Powers of Attorney must take place by Friday 21st December 2018.
